Kawasaki Versys-X 300 Overview

The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is an adventure bike for buyers who want a twin-cylinder engine, a relatively light kerb weight and a large tank for commuting and longer rides. Its 17-litre tank is bigger than those of the listed rivals, while its claimed mileage is 26kmpl. The rear suspension’s preload adjustment also lets riders set it for different loads, and a pillion seat, footrests and grab rail are provided.

At 175kg, it is lighter than the listed rivals, and its 815mm seat is the lowest among them. The KTM 390 Adventure X makes more power and has better claimed mileage, but is heavier and has a taller seat. The Versys-X is priced around the 390 Adventure X, below the Bear 650 and 390 Adventure R, and above the 390 Enduro R. Its trade-offs include tubed tyres, no phone connectivity or navigation, and less power than the KTM 390 Adventure X and Bear 650.

  • Dual-channel ABS helps prevent either wheel locking during hard braking.
  • The 17-litre tank is larger than those of the listed rivals.
  • The 815mm seat is the lowest among the listed rivals.
  • At 175kg, it is lighter than every listed rival.
  • Rear preload adjustment lets riders set the suspension for different loads.
  • The semi-digital display includes fuel-consumption and distance-to-empty information.

What we like

  • Lightest kerb weight among the listed rivals.
  • Lowest seat height among the listed rivals.
  • Dual-channel ABS with disc brakes at both ends.
  • Large 17-litre tank and 26kmpl claimed mileage.

What could be better

  • Less power than the KTM 390 Adventure X and Royal Enfield Bear 650.
  • Tubed tyres can be less convenient to repair after a puncture.
  • No mobile phone connectivity or GPS navigation.
  • Its claimed mileage is lower than the KTM 390 Adventure X’s.

Best for: Buy it if you want a relatively light adventure bike with a low seat, a large tank and twin-cylinder power for commuting and longer rides.
