Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS Overview

The Speed Triple 1200 RS is a high-performance naked for riders who prioritise a powerful engine and weekend or fast-road riding over everyday practicality. Its 1160cc triple produces 180.5bhp and 128Nm. Five riding modes include Rain and Track, while electronically adjustable Öhlins suspension allows compression and rebound damping to be adjusted. Dual-channel ABS helps prevent both wheels from locking under hard braking, and the bike also gets traction and front-wheel-lift control.

The 830mm seat may be a stretch for shorter riders. Its 15.5-litre tank, claimed 18kmpl mileage and lack of under-seat storage are practical compromises; the stepped pillion seat has footrests and a grab rail. The BMW S 1000 R makes less power at 167.6bhp and has a lower claimed mileage of 16kmpl. The KTM 1390 Super Duke R is more powerful at 187.7bhp and 145Nm, and has a higher 250km/h top speed, but weighs more than the Triumph.

  • The 180.5bhp, 128Nm triple puts engine performance at the centre of the package.
  • Dual-channel ABS helps prevent both wheels from locking under hard braking.
  • Electronic compression and rebound adjustment lets riders tune damping at both ends.
  • Five riding modes include Rain and Track.
  • A quickshifter allows gear changes without operating the clutch.
  • Bluetooth, turn-by-turn navigation and distance-to-empty information aid ride planning.

What we like

  • Strong 180.5bhp and 128Nm output.
  • Electronic suspension adjustment at the front and rear.
  • Dual-channel ABS, traction control and front-wheel-lift control.
  • Cruise control and a quickshifter are included.

What could be better

  • The 830mm seat height may challenge shorter riders.
  • There is no under-seat storage.
  • The 15.5-litre tank is smaller than the KTM 1390 Super Duke R's 17.5-litre tank.

Best for: Buy it if you want a powerful naked with adjustable suspension and extensive rider aids, and can accommodate its tall seat and limited storage.
